Preparation of Main (Detail) Design Documentation for the Montenegrin part of the submarine/underground Fibre Optical Cable under scope of MON.ITA Project (± 500 kV HVDC Interconnection between Italy and Montenegro)

Client: PRYSMIAN POWERLINK S.r.l.

Name of partner(s): NA

Start/Completion Date: December 2020-ongoing project (ETA May 2021)

Project description: Upon completion of Phase I of the MON.ITA Project, a trial operation of the constructed part (Pole 1) of the 500 kV HVDC submarine/underground cable began in 2019, using leased existing commercial telecommunication lines for the necessary telecommunication connections for the purposes of control, protection and communication between two converter stations (AC/DC Converter Station (CS) Cepagatti, Italy - 400 kV AC / ±500 kV DC, 2x500 MW and Converter Station 400 kV AC / ±500 kV DC, 2x500 MW (CS) Lastva, Montenegro). Taking in consideration situation regarding the delayed installation and commissioning of the second 500 kV HVDC submarine/underground cable (Pole 2) it was decided to install and put into operation the underground/ submarine fibre-optical (FO) cable in 2021, independently of the HVDC cable Pole 2. In this way, the subsystem of telecommunication communications will be fully realized by it is own communication infrastructure. The main objective of this assignment is preparation of Main (Detail) Design for laying and putting into operation of the submarine / underground fiber-optical (FO) cable on the entire route of the ± 500 kV HVDC cable on Montenegrin territory to connect converter stations Cepagatti (Italy) and Lastva Grbaljska (Montenegro). The submarine / underground fiber-optical (FO) cable will have 48 fibres in order to realize telecommunication connection (transmission of data, signals, measurements, commands) for the needs of control and maintenance of the power HVDC 500 kV interconnection line, as well as for other system and commercial needs. The length of the submarine section of the fiber-optical cable is about 25 km and the land section is cca. 5.6 km long. SEEC performed following tasks:
