Due diligence of PSP Djerdap III in today conditions, Serbia
Client: RWE GmbH, Germany
Name of partner(s): N/A
Start/Completion Date: July 2010 - February 2011
Project description: This due diligence was aimed to review the existing studies for the pump storage power plant Djerdap III which dates back to the first technical documentation in 1973 and revisions and further investigations that were performed up to 1989. The concepts considered the construction of Djerdap III in several stages with installed capacity of 600 MW in the first stage up to 2400 MW and of storage reservoirs with total volumes of 18 mil. m³ up to 600 mil. m³. These concepts was reviewed under today conditions and on the level of general study/design. The results of the due diligence shall be the basis for RWE and EPS from technological, social, environmental and cost point of view to discuss and jointly agree upon the concept and design characteristics which set the framework for the further project assessment on the level of conceptual design and pre-feasibility study. The pump storage power plant design was reviewed and optimized for the performance under future market conditions which implies the assessment under cost/storage volume ratio aspects for each stage of extension, under the restriction that the plant can operate with full capacity for at least 5 consecutive hours a day. It was assumed that the storage reservoirs will be used solely for energy production.
