Project description: Georgia has significant renewable energy potentials especially in the field of hydro potentials and followed by wind, geothermal, solar and biomass energy potentials. Also, Georgia has made significant efforts in promotions of renewable energy utilization, as well as in adoption appropriate regulation, and preparation of project and study documentation in last decade.
The consulting services ("the Services") include Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment (further referred to SESA) for the Power Sector of Georgia. The main objective of the assignment is to prepare Strategic Environmental and Social Assessment Report for different strategy scenarios for the Power Sector of Georgia and associated transmission infrastructure and provide recommendations for the preferred scenario. The objective of this consultant assignment is to contribute to the decision-making by the Government of Georgia on the strategic development scenarios of Georgia's power sector. This contribution will be made through carrying out the SESA of the proposed scenarios of power sector development taking into account the definitions, approaches and applicable methodologies as defined in EU Directive 2001/42/EC (Directive on the Assessment of the Effects of Certain Plans and Programs on the Environment); EU Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC and Birds Directive 74/409/EEC; take account of relevant national and international standards, industry guidelines and best practices.
The Ministry of Energy (MoE) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources Protection (MoENRP) are the beneficiaries of the SESA, while the contract management for the present consultant assignment is delegated by the Government of Georgia to MoE.
