Preparation of As-Built Documentation for the Montenegrin part of the ± 500 kV HVDC SUBMARINE/UNDERGROUND Cable Phase I - Interconnection between Italy and Montenegro - Project MON.ITA

Client: PRYSMIAN POWERLINK S.r.l.- Foreign company branch

Start/Completion Date: October 2018 - March 2021

Project description: After SEEC has successfully finalized technical and main (detail) design services in 2016 necessary to obtain the Building Permit for the construction of the 500 kV HVDC submarine/underground cable of the Montenegrin part of power interconnection link between Italy and Montenegro (MON.ITA Project), supply and installation works have been started and successfully executed by the main EPC Contractor Prysmian Powerlink. From 2018 to 2020, the 500 kV HVDC submarine/underground cable interconnection has undergone necessary tests and trial run which showed that the cable is technically functional and ready for permanent operation. It should be emphasized that in this first phase only half of the originally planned capacity has been installed i.e. one cable circuit (Pole 1) with 500 MW of installed power capacity instead of 1000 MW capacity as planned initially. The second phase of the project i.e. installation of the second cable line (Pole 2) is postponed because of delayed construction of the 400 kV HV TL Lastva – Pljevlja and associated transmission grid infrastructure which is also part of the project “Trans-Balkan Corridor”. However, in order to put the first phase of the new 500 kV HVDC interconnection under the commercial use which was planned to be triggered in 2020, it was necessary to conduct the detail commissioning procedure and prepare As-Built documentation in order to obtain the Operation (Use) Permit. Therefore, SEEC has been contracted by EPC Contractor Prysmian Powerlink to prepare the As-Built documentation of the Montenegrin part of 500 kV HVDC submarine/underground cable for the realized phase I.
